Dirk Moonen, Maître d’Armes, is a highly experienced fencing instructor
in all three weapons (foil, épée & saber) certified both here and in Europe.
He teaches throughout the Valley and has been involved with fencing
instruction at all levels in the United States and overseas for more than
forty years. In the late sixties he directed his club’s – Cercle Royal
d’Escrime La Concorde - youth program and was the University of
Virginia women's team head coach in the mid-seventies. He is a member of
various national and international fencing academies and associations.

What
Is Fencing?
The sport of fencing is fast and athletic, a far cry from the choreographed
bouts you see on film or on the stage. Instead of swinging from a chandelier
or leaping from balconies, you will see two fencers performing an intense
dance on a six-feet-by-40-feet strip. The movement is so fast the touches
are scored electrically - more like Star Wars than Errol Flynn.

Lessons
Lessons and Instruction in the art of fencing are available in both a group
as well as privately. Many can be arranged to conveniently fit into your
